The Need for Environmental Awareness In Palestine

The traveler between the cities of Qalqiliya and Tulkarem is captured by the piles of litter thrown on both sides of the road. Some travelers respond by closing their cars' windows to prevent the bad smell. One should stop and think again about this phenomenon and study its environmental and health impacts on people living in this geographical area.

It is well known that this area is connected to an artisan well, which is considered to be the largest in the West Bank. This artisan well is exposed to big damages in the area, not to mention contaminated litter dumped by the surrounding settlements.

We are in need for a general environmental awareness, not only from those specialized in this field; but from the whole community. Environmental pollution in the West Bank and Gaza Strip can not be separated from economic and political contexts. Therefore, protecting the Palestinian environment is considered to be a national cause, environmental awareness in Palestine should be dealt with as a national priority.
